Residential Air-Conditioning (RAC)

This Certificate in Residential Air-Conditioning course provides students with the skills and knowledge in installing, troubleshooting, repairing and servicing residential air-conditioning systems in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications and recommendations; statutory requirements for refrigerant, electricity, health and safety; and building control regulations to ensure safe and efficient operation of air conditioning systems.

Module 1: Air-Conditioning Wiring

On completion of this unit, students should be able to install power circuits and troubleshoot power circuit and electrical faults of air-conditioning equipment.

Module 2: Air-Conditioning Controls

On completion of this unit, students should be able to install wiring circuits of air-conditioning equipment, replace faulty motor starting devices of induction motor, and troubleshoot electrical control of air-conditioning equipment.

Module 3: Unitary Air-Conditioning System

On completion of this unit, students should be able to fabricate refrigeration piping, set-up refrigeration system, perform leak testing, evacuation and charging of refrigeration system, recover refrigerant, install and test unitary-type residential air-conditioning units.

Module 4: Split Air-Conditioning System

On completion of this unit, students should be able to perform routine maintenance, parts replacement, troubleshoot faults in air-conditioning equipment, install and test split-type residential air-conditioning units.
