General Welding Course (GWG)

This Certificate in General Welding course provides students with the skills and knowledge in welding plates/sheets and pipes on various types of joints in various positions using SMAW, GMAW, GTAW and FCAW processes up to 3G position, cutting plates and pipes using oxy-fuel gas cutting process, gouging plates using air carbon arc process and preparing materials & joints.

Module 1: Shielded Metal Arc Welding I

On completion of the unit, students should be able to perform cutting on 10mm mild steel plates and pipes in various positions using the manual and machine oxy-acetylene cutting process; prepare materials and joints and weld various types of joints on mild steel plates and pipes in various positions using the shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) process.

Module 2: Shielded Metal Arc Welding II

On completion of the unit, students should be able to weld various types of joints on mild steel plates and pipes in various positions using the shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) process; and perform gouging on plates using air carbon-arc process in the flat, horizontal and vertical positions.

Module 3: Gas Metal Arc Welding & Gas Tungsten Arc Welding

On completion of this unit, students should be able to weld various types of joints on mild steel, aluminium and stainless steel plates and pipes in various positions using the gas metal arc welding (GMAW) and the gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) processes.

Module 4: Flux-Cored Arc Welding

On completion of this unit, students should be able to weld various types of joints on mild steel plates and pipes in various positions using the flux cored arc welding process (FCAW) with gas-shielded electrode wire and self-shielded electrode wire.
